Who is Susan Kerr?

Susan Kerr painted first when she was a young girl. Raised in the Southern California sun, her first creations were in the flower bed mixture of water and mud in front of her childhood home. She was mesmerized by the moving water from a broken sprinkler and spent hours in the sunshine moving water, mud, creating movement, pathways, canals, paintings, moving sculptures.

She was mesmerized and hooked by the water, the movement, the possibilities. She still is. These transformative moments of childhood wonder influence her life and art today. Whether painting, writing, taking photos, sculpting, or coaching, Susan still loves and encourages gentle transitions of spirit both on and off the canvas. It is no wonder that another love and inspiration is negotiating the gentle lagoons and canals in her boat, Florentina, in Venice, Italy. Painting gives voice to a part of her she didn’t know existed. Like a smile without words, her paintings speak to her and others in a way that transforms.

Susan is also a writer and has published a short book on poetry, has written numerous poems and short stories on a variety of topics, has published her photos in a local journal, arlijo.com and a recent publication of her photos of Venice in Issue #62 of the same journal. She creates home in Old Town Alexandria, Venice, Italy, and Southern California. She paints where her feet and heart are and also works on commission.
